After (Design Concepts)
This couple had a newly installed hot tub in their back garden, and they love it, but the surrounding garden space had almost nothing else in it, which made it less enjoyable to them. Previous homeowners had installed a bamboo screen in front of the fence line that added some necessary privacy, and along with the side of the garage created a space that felt like a courtyard. They have a beloved dog who needs to be able to enjoy the space, they regularly entertain friends, and they wanted very little maintenance.
They wanted the hot tub itself to be enclosed by a structure, and have an adjacent shower enclosure. It was important for entertaining that there was some connection between the hot tub space and the lounging space, and they wanted to maintain a way to have an outdoor fire. I designed a lounging space between the hot tub and the garage that is primarily for 2 people, but can easily be used by many more, and some options for the hot tub enclosure — some more open and some more private.
