After (Design Concepts)

These homeowners had recently returned to this house after renting it for years while living elsewhere. One of them is a keen gardener and has a vast vegetable garden in the back, but they both wanted to create something beautiful in the front & along the side that would unify the space, including the new dining patio by the kitchen in the back.
The front garden is a large slope with no retaining structure, so the designs include stones & boulders to help retain soil, and also different options for steps to make traversal easier. The designs also factor in drainage from a downspout, sometimes making a feature of it in rainy months.
The side garden is behind a gate and receives a mixture of both shade (from the house next door) and full sun (reflected off the house) simultaneously, leaving them feeling confused about what they should do. They also wanted to create additional privacy between their space and the neighbors, especially as the neighboring house is very close to the property line.
There is no place for just lounging in the garden, other than at the dining table in the back, so the side garden was designed to give them a space to sit in the shade and enjoy sunny days, while enjoying the view to the back.
