After (Design Concepts)

This family has lived in this spot for a number of years, and decided that after some drainage work, they wanted a new garden (replacing a soggy lawn) to enjoy in the back connecting around the side of their home.
They knew they were keeping the deck used for entertaining in the back as it connects to their kitchen and they keep the glass kitchen doors open all the time in warmer months. They will also be replacing a hot tub that recesses into the deck at a future date.
They wanted a low-maintenance garden space that would not only be nice to sit in and enjoy the view, but also to look at from inside during the long, grey winters.
The side yard mostly acts as an access path, but has a lovely view. So it could invite lingering with the right width path, interesting plantings and a bit of privacy from the neighbors. The owner wanted to use lots of native plants here to support wildlife and pollinators, plus fruit mixed into the ornamental plants, so the planting is designed for that purpose.
